The story so far

Murray and the team have been brewing unique and off-beat naturally crafted beers since 2006, and in the process have won a bunch of awards and accolades – including Australia's Brewer of the Year.

The craft beer bug bit Murray a few years before this when he was on a trip to America. Legend has it he tried a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale at a roadside diner in California – and thought he'd died and gone to beer heaven! This experience inspired him to open his own brewery, so he could brew and enjoy the beers he wanted to drink back home in Australia.

The birthplace of Murray's Craft Brewing Co was the tiny hamlet of Taylors Arm (population 50) on the NSW North Coast. Murray bought the iconic Pub With No Beer (of Slim Dusty fame), and quickly solved the supply problem by installing a microbrewery on site.

After several years, the brewery outgrew the Pub, so it was decided to relocate all the equipment and brewing team to our current home at Bobs Farm, Port Stephens.

From those humble beginnings in Taylors Arm, our brewing facilities have been upgraded four times.

As a small brewer authenticity is very important to us. We are an independent, 100% Australian owned and run craft brewer who is passionate about improving the public’s perception of beer as a beverage in our country. We do not license out production or supply of any of our wide range of beers to any other brewer either large or small.  We brew a wide range of highly-rated beer from our brewery at Port Stephens – including 100 per cent of our draught beer and a lot of our bottle product. We also brew and bottle some of our biggest lines offsite at a larger plant when we can’t keep up with spikes in demand. Importantly, a large part of this production is carried out personally by our brewers.

Today, Murray’s Craft Brewing Co shares its home with Port Stephens Winery, the region’s oldest vineyard. Showcasing beer and wine together is quite a natural thing for us. Bringing the two together in a great tourist location seemed like a great way to provide visitors with a wide variety of taste sensations.

Visit us at Bobs Farm and try Murray’s beers - there’s up to 10 on tap at any one time plus bottled specials. Taste local and regional wines, enjoy a delicious meal from the Brewery Restaurant, play a game of bocce, enjoy our entertainment and events, and learn more about craft beer by taking a Brewery Tour (public tours are daily at 2.15pm).

If you’re planning to head a little further north, visit us at The Pub With No Beer – where Murray’s beers are still flowing to manage that century-old supply problem!
