WELCOME TO OUR BLAND-FREE WORLD

Don’t expect Murray’s to ease you too gently into an afternoon of pale fizzy blandness at the bar. We’re known for doing two things: brewing exciting, quirky and sometimes just plain weird craft beers and doing it with ridiculous consistency.

Angry Man, Whale Ale, XPA, After Dark and Port Stephens Lager are all good places to begin training your palate before unleashing the flavour tsunami contained within beers like Ghost Gate, Nectabomb, Thunderbolt or other specialties when available.

Our beers are 100% natural – a fact we know you will no doubt appreciate the following morning. Our beers are hand-crafted, not mass-produced. They have their own identity; their own story.

Grand Cru

Grand Cru

Murray's Grand Cru is a hybrid of the Belgian Trippel and Golden Strong Ale styles. Made with authentic Belgian yeast , this highly awarded beer pours a pale straw colour with a fluffy white head. Hints of banana and bubblegum, backed with the dry-hopped spiciness of Pacifica hops dominate the aroma and flavour. This is balanced by silky malt flavours, finishing with a mellow bitterness.
Murray's Grand Cru is a sophisticated, 'out-there' beer - our interpretation of two classic beer styles from one of the world's greatest brewing nations,Belgium.
Savour this world-class beer on its own, or pair with wild game or strong oily fish such as salmon. Also wonderful with strong cheese.

Moon Boy Golden Ale

Moon Boy Golden Ale

Moon Boy has a very light Australian Pilsner malt backbone with a crisp, dry, very moreish finish.
Extensive dry hopping with the New Zealand Motueka and Australia Ella hops gives a late tropical fruit aroma to spice things up - but without too much residual hop bitterness. Light, dry, lightly filtered, Moon Boy is great warm weather drinking.

Sassy Belgian Blond

Sassy Belgian Blond

Murray's Sassy Belgian Blond is a Belgian-style Ale, and the only beer of its kind brewed in the country. A deep, golden colour with a tight, off-white head, Murray's Sassy Belgian Blond has a spicy-orange flavour and aroma, with hints of toasty/biscuity malt and finishing with restrained bitterness. The unique characteristics of this beer are derived from a distinctive Belgian yeast and imported Styrian Golding hops.

Dark Knight Porter

Dark Knight Porter

Murray's Dark Knight is the Porter that means business. Made from six specialty malts, this hooch is full bodied, rich and complex.
A dark ruby colour with creamy off-white head, Dark Knight has an aroma of caramel and bittersweet chocolate, and finishes with a balanced bitterness.
Makes other Porters untouchable!

Hot Cross Bun Beer

Hot Cross Bun Beer

Hot cross buns in a beer glass!
Murray's Easter Ale is an Easter spiced beer to celebrate the season. Strong cinnamon and nutmeg spice aromas blended with bready British malts take an inspiration from seasonal hot cross buns to evoke the Easter spirit.
Brewed with a late addition of raisins to really capture the sweet and savoury feel.
Why should kids get all the Easter fun?!?

RudeBoy Pilsner

RudeBoy Pilsner

Murray's Rudeboy Pilsner has a distinctive crisp, fresh hoppy flavour that has made it a favourite among the country's foodie community.
"The Rudeboy Pilsner is a very elegant lager with a classic biscuity malt backbone and assertive late hop character," says Head Brewers Sean & Alex. "It's traditionally been available draught only, but now the beer is available in the bottle. It has been a real challenge to reproduce the popular draught beer in the bottled format but as a lover of traditional Czech Pilsner I'm really happy with how the bottled Rudeboy Pilsner presents."
The beer pours a pale straw colour with an almost meringue-like head. The intense citrusy aroma and flavour is delivered by the New Zealand Motueka and Pacifica hop blend, which is balanced by sweet Euro malt, and finishes with a refreshing bitterness.
Rudeboy is Murray's interpretation of Pilsner made vaguely in the Czech style but with a New World twist. It pays homage to European brewing tradition using the old school lager brewing process of cold fermentation and extended conditioning periods, but the extensive late hopping takes this Pilsner in its own direction.

Best Extra Porter

Best Extra Porter

Murray's Best Extra Porter is an unconventional Imperial/Robust Porter. Murray's Best Extra Porter is made with selected roast malts. This special beer is full bodied, rich and complex. Pouring with an intensely deep-ruby colour and creamy off-white head, Murray's Best Extra Porter has an aroma of caramel and bittersweet chocolate, which follows through in the flavour and finishes with a firm, but balanced bitterness.
Due to the style of the beer, we have purposely lowered the bottle carbonation to give it a more rounded and smooth mouth feel.

Icon 2IPA

Icon 2IPA

Murray 's Icon 2IPA is one of the hoppiest beers consistently brewed in the southern hemisphere. It is also one of the highest rated beers brewed in Australia. It is inspired by modern American versions of the India Pale Ale style. The beer's extensive hopping (more than 1kg of hops per 100 litres) creates intense citrus, passionfruit and peppery characteristics, balanced by sweet biscuity malt and a full bodied, rich-and-rounded bitter finish.
Murray's Icon 2IPA is a challenge to brew, with the huge hop content literally overloading the brewery.

Spartacus Imperial IPA

Spartacus Imperial IPA

Spartacus Imperial IPAlands another blow in the battle against bland beer esnlaving the Australian beer market.
Big, robust and dangerously drinkable this titan of a beer gets a big X out of X for taste! Too many hop additions to count. Naturally brewed, rest-assured that Spartacus will still be on your side in the morning.
So get-down and party like it's MCMXCIX!

Wild Thing Imperial Stout

Wild Thing Imperial Stout

The original Murray's cult beer, 'Wild Thing' Imperial Stout, is a massive, intense drinking experience inspired by the great stouts favoured by the Russian Imperial Court. The colour is intensely black. The flavour is an intense hit of mocha with some malt sweetness but an aggressive hop bitterness and roast grain bite to balance.10% abv.

Big Wednesday IPA

Big Wednesday IPA

Murray's Big Wednesday India Pale Ale (IPA) is an explosion of hop flavour and aroma. An IPA with a twist, it is brewed without a standard bittering hop addition and without using any rich crystal malts in the grain bill.
Big Wednesday is a drier IPA with an emphasis on strong hop flavour and drinkability. Bucketloads of fresh New Zealand hops added late in the brewing process give Big Wednesday its unique bittersweet balance.
It is a noticeably bigger beer than Murray's Angry Man Pale Ale, but isn't as intense and mouthfilling as the Icon 2IPA. Its blend of the NZ Riwaka, Motueka and Pacifica hops combine for a uniquely fruity hop aroma and flavour that leaps from the glass - almost over the top but very moreish.
At 6% ABV it demands respect but is dangerously drinkable for its size.
Great on its own or with hot and spicy foods such as Mexican.

Imperious Imperial Belgian Blond

Imperious Imperial Belgian Blond

Murray's Imperious Imperial Belgian Blond¾is an experimental beer, and¾the first in our exclusive "FBB Series" of beers (use your imagination!). Imperious contains a blend of British and German malts, really fresh New Zealand-grown hops, and a spicy Belgian yeast strain. It has a classic Belgian yeast profile¾- strong esters and light phenolics. Fresh tropical hop character, sweet mouthfilling apricot/stonefruit-like flavours at the front of the palate. Warmth from the alcohol, but not overwhelming.

Endless Summer

Endless Summer

It may not be the Hills Hoist, a garage roller door, the Bionic Ear or the Two-Stroke Lawn Mower, but we're pretty proud of Australia?s latest invention - our Flemish Summer Ale (known affectionately as Murray's Endless Summer), being released in NSW and Victoria from Australia Day - Tuesday 26 January 2010.
According to Head Brewer, Shawn Sherlock, The basic idea for this beer is that it is an invented style - a hybrid of a few Belgian styles and influenced by Saisons, Belgian Blond Ales, with a nod to Belgian Trippels, but true to Murray's style, true to none of them as such!?
This beer is perfect for lazy summer afternoons and a refreshing change from all those bland lagers out there. Murray's Endless Summer is for those looking for something a bit different this summer.
Murray's Endless Summer carries the classic estery and lightly phenolic Belgian yeast character from the blend of authentic Belgian ale yeasts used. The body of the beer is complex with round biscuity German malt flavours initially filling the mouth before a surprisingly dry, summery finish for a beer of this size. It is this dry finish that keeps it as a summer ale ? very moreish and drinkable - but dangerous at 7% ABV.
Also marking it as unusual for a Belgian style is its spicy late hop character. The beer isn't a hop driven style by any means but there is a stronger presence than in most Belgian styles which adds to the overall complexity of the beer.

Shawn's Fault India Black Ale

Shawn's Fault India Black Ale

Murray's Shawn's Fault India Black Ale is an out-there¾beer and a lot of fun! Inspired by the emerging India Black Ale style, this is a full flavoured IPA brewed using dark malts. The result is a great blend of big hop flavour and aroma with the strong dark chocolate, almost coffee-like flavours from chocolate and black patent malts used.
If you like big flavours and something a bit different, you'll love Shawn's Fault. And if you don't¾, then it's Shawn's fault! This is not a beer for low-carb, no flavour fans.

Seasons in the Abyss

Seasons in the Abyss

Murray's 'Seasons in the Abyss' Farmhouse Imperial Stout is dry, dark and roasty _ with a wicked earthy yeast character. At 11.3% abv, it's a beer to be savoured on the darkest winter nights.

Punch & Judy's Ale

Punch & Judy's Ale

Murray's Punch & Judy's Amber Ale is delicious proof that lower alcohol does not mean less flavour. Our full flavoured English style Ale is rich in nutty, caramel malt flavours with a hop aroma that really packs a punch. A great beer to share with friends.

Sassy Blonder

Sassy Blonder

Murray's¾Sassy Blonder is based on our original Sassy Blond beer, but even more fun! We've upped the ABV to about 5.2%, made her a bit paler with a stronger Belgian yeast character. She's still at sesssion strength, but "bigger" all round.

Heart of Darkness Belgio Imperial Stout

Heart of Darkness Belgio Imperial Stout

This is a unique beer - a mix of styles concoted by Murray's brewers.
An Imperial Stout in basic style, but with a stronger accent on the chocolate malt over the roast barley, some rummy notes from the dark brown sugar, and underpinning it all, the classic Belgian esters and very light phenolics from the yeast.

Angry Man Brown Ale

Angry Man Brown Ale

Strong, uncompromising flavour it is a BIG Brown Ale - bitter up front and smooth at the finish. Strong hop flavour and aroma and a little bit chocolaty. A beautiful dark ruby red when held up to the light, but solid dark brown in the shade.

Dark Horse Dark ESB

Dark Horse Dark ESB

A rich malty beer with tones of caramel and toffee, balanced by a firm bitterness.

Pumpkin Ale

Pumpkin Ale

HAVE WITH SOMETHING GHOULISH

Halloween at Murray’s is a perfect time to serve our famous Pumpkin Ale, a beery nod to the American tradition of pumpkin pie that is served up during the spooky holiday. With a hefty portion of roast pumpkin added to the mash (about 50kg) and lashings of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice in the whirlpool, this unusual festive brew will leave you surprisingly yearning for more.

One of our most requested beers!

Aphrodite Hopfenweisse

Aphrodite Hopfenweisse

"The beer that loves you back, Aphrodite is a 'hopfenweisse': basically a bigger, much hoppier wheat beer. It is brewed with a high proportion of wheat malt and uses a blend of a classic German Weizen yeast and Murray's house ale blend. Loads of hops were added late in the boil and to the whirlpool with no conventional bittering addition at all resulting in big hop flavour and aroma but restrained bitterness.

Anniversary Ale 6

Anniversary Ale 6

Every year we brew a beer to celebrate the birth of our little brewery. The Anniversary Ale series changes subtly each year but is always oak aged, always big and always very limited release. Anniversary Ale is designed to drink well at release but will reward careful cellaring - we predict it will mature nicely over up to 10 years.
Our 6th Anniversary Ale is our biggest, most complex beer yet. Like previous year's Anniversary Ales it has been treated to extensive oak barrel aging, and is packaged under cork in 750ml Sparkling bottles. The similarities stop there though... This year we are releasing a Belgian inspired Barleywine. At 15% abv it is by far our 'biggest' beer ever and it is designed for extended cellaring. The blend of 5 different Belgian yeast strains makes for an incredibly complex ester profile. The high abv makes it's presence felt with warmth right across the palate, but even at this early stage of the beer's life is not 'hot' or spirit like. The French and American oak barrels contribute further complex layers of flavour and aroma to the beer. Initially full and rich on the palate, AA6 finishes remarkably dry for a beer of this size. A beer designed to age gracefully for at least 5 to 10 years.

Punk Monk

Punk Monk

According to Head Brewer, Shawn Sherlock, "The basic idea for this beer is that it is an invented style - a hybrid of a few Belgian styles and influenced by Saisons, Belgian Blond Ales, with a nod to Belgian Trippels."
Murray's Punk Monk carries the classic estery and lightly phenolic Belgian yeast character from the blend of authentic Belgian ale yeasts used. The body of the beer is complex with round biscuity German malt flavours initially filling the mouth before a surprisingly dry, summery finish for a beer of this size.
It is this dry finish that keeps it very moreish and drinkable - but dangerous at 7.5% ABV.
Also marking it as unusual for a Belgian style is its spicy late hop character. The beer isn't a hop driven style by any means but there is a stronger presence than in most Belgian styles which adds to the overall complexity of the beer.

Retro Rocket Ale

Retro Rocket Ale

Retro Rocket Ale is proof big things can come in small packages. At just on 2.8% ABV it qualifies as a light beer, but is brewed to pack a big flavour punch. Brewed using the best British malts it carries a big, almost over the top hop flavour and aroma. Almost coppery red in colour. It is not a beer for the faint hearted - don't let the Rocket's ABV fool you! It is Australia's smallest IPA.

Libertine French Ale

Libertine French Ale

Libertine uses a unique and distinctive French Ale yeast that contributes mightily to the overall profile of the brew. Strong earthy, country aromas dominate with a light acidity on the palate followed by the driest of cracking dry finishes.High malted and unmalted wheat content, hazy, pale straw colour.
Different, distinctive, unfiltered. Natural.

Tinker's Curse Dry Irish Stout

Tinker's Curse Dry Irish Stout

Murray's Tinker's Curse Dry Irish Stout¾is a session strength stout designed to be drunk by the pint. As is classic for the style, Tinker's Curse has a strong charred roast grain character up front. A real stout bite, followed by a smooth, clean finish.

Vesuvius Premium Lager

Vesuvius Premium Lager

The beer is a big lager. 7.1% abv, not big enough to carry the Imperial tag, but big for a Pilsner style. It carries a classic lager fermentation profile - long cool fermentation and extended cold conditioning. This gives a dry, crisp yeast character typical of traditional lagers.
It is aggressively hopped with a blend of Motueka, Nelson Sauvin and Pacifica hops, and carries a solid hop bitterness as a result. A dry hop addition adds to the fruity hop aromatics expected of a Pilsner inspired beer. The best available German malts lend enough body to just balance the hop load.
Truly a premium lager in the best sense of the term!

Rock Around the Clock Bock

Rock Around the Clock Bock

Murray's Rock Around the Clock Bock is a clean drinking malt bomb! Big, rich German character from the Munich and Vienna malt-rich grain bill is just balanced by the cleansing Pacifica hop bitterness.
Luscious but insanely drinkable at a warming 7.7% ABV.

Heart of Darkness Oak Aged Belgio Imperial Stout

Heart of Darkness Oak Aged Belgio Imperial Stout

Brewed to mark our 500th batch of beer, Murray's Heart of Darkness Oak Aged¾'Belgio' Imperial Stout is a mix of styles and according to Head Brewer, Shawn Sherlock, "one of a kind". An Imperial Stout in basic style but with a stronger accent on the chocolate malt over the roast barley, some rummy, portiness from the dark brown sugar, and underpinning it all, some classic Belgian esters and very light phenolics from the yeast. Extra depth of flavour comes from ageing in Shiraz oak casks. The beer pours very dark brown/black in colour with dark ruby highlights when held up to the light.
This is a big, beautiful beer. A big, dark, beautiful beer. A big, dark Belgian-inspired beautiful beer. At 9.6% abv its a beer made for sipping. Perfect for the darkest of winter nights.

Bob's Farmhouse Ale

Bob's Farmhouse Ale

Brewed as Murray's contribution to the Great Australian Beer Spectapular in Melbourne 2013, and named after the home of Murray's Craft Brewing, Bob's Farmhouse Ale is an unfiltered farmhouse style brew, exhibiting strong earthy yeast character and subtle oak complexity from a combination of French and American barrels. It is remarkably easy drinking for a brew of its high 9% ABV, but carries the characteristic farmyard character from the traditional French yeast..

Auld Bulgin' Boysterous Bicep

Auld Bulgin' Boysterous Bicep

Auld Bulgin' Boysterous Bicep Imperial Stout is Australia's first Smoked Belgio Imperial Mussel and Oyster Stout, originally conceived for the New Zealand 'Beervana' festival Media-brew beer challenge. Read the story here. The beer is a collaboration between the team at Murray's and the Crafty Pint beer blog, brewed to reflect the origins of the parties involved and utilises Port Stephens Oysters for Murray's Brewery (based at Port Stephens); blue lipped mussels from Victoria for Crafty Pint ; and green-lipped mussels, native to New Zealand per batch.
In case the beer wasn't complex or out-there enough, the team added peated distilling malt to the grain bill and fermented it with a Belgian yeast originally sourced from a Trappist monastery!
"It was a crazy beer to brew with a great set of out-there ingredients," said Murray's Head Brewer, Shawn Sherlock. "As strange as it may sound the result was a really well balanced and rounded Imperial Stout with a twist, and a beer we were all very proud of. It was a lot of fun to brew _ and ultimately too good a beer not to brew on a bigger scale."
The original pilot batch of the beer won its class at New Zealand's Beervana Festival with a perfect 45/45 score.
"The judges obviously knew a great Smoked Belgio Imperial Mussel and Oyster Stout when they tasted one!" Shawn said.
Strong chocolate character underpins the beer with peaty smoked notes from the distilling malt present, especially when the beer is young. The high abv and Belgian yeast character combine to add even further complexity to the beer, before a minerally, briney finish from the mussels and oysters takes the beer in yet another direction.
Rich, complex and fun.
10% abv.

1942 Collaboration Brew

1942 Collaboration Brew

1942 is a dark lager brewed as a collaboration between Murray's Craft Brewing Co and Hunter Beer Co as a one off special release for Newcastle Craft Beer Week 2012.
It uses German malts and is medium bodied, malty sweet with a roasty finish. Light NZ hop aroma without strong bitterness, reflecting Newcastle's dark beer loving traditions. The name 1942 refers to the year the Japanese submarine shelled the inner city of Newcastle and the big guns at Fort Scratchley fired for their first and only time in anger in defence of the city.

Murray's Anniversary Ale 7

Murray's Anniversary Ale 7

Every year we brew a beer to celebrate the birth of our brewery. The Anniversary Ale series changes subtly each year but is always oak aged, always big and always a very limited release of around 1000 bottles.
Murray's 7th Anniversary Ale is among our biggest, most complex beers yet.
This year's release is a Belgian-inspired barley wine (15% abv) _ but with a twist on last year. Cherry wood smoked malt has been added, which contributes a really interesting layer of smoky complexity to the beer.
Like previous year's Anniversary Ales, this year's beer has been treated to extensive oak barrel aging, and is packaged under cork in 750ml Champagne bottles. The blend of two different Belgian yeast strains makes for an incredibly complex ester profile. The high abv makes its presence felt with warmth right across the palate, but even at this early stage of the beer's life is not 'hot' or spirit like.
The American oak barrels contribute further complex layers of flavour and aroma to the beer. Initially full and rich on the palate, Murray's Anniversary Ale 7 finishes remarkably dry for a beer of this size.
Murray's Anniversary Ale 7 is designed to reward careful cellaring - with the beer expected to mature beautifully over up to 10 years.
Enjoy with celebrations.

Caveman Smoked Belgian Dark Ale

Caveman Smoked Belgian Dark Ale

Murray's 'Caveman' is their contribution to the 2013 Great Australian Beer Spectapular Festival in Melbourne held during Good Beer Week. It is a smoked Belgian Dark Ale, 6.2% ABV. Rich mouthfilling malt with a little up front sweetness is made more complex by the addition of German Beech Wood smoked malt. The delicious smokey flavour and aroma of the beer is further accentuated by the Belgian yeast used to ferment the beer which adds a complex layer of esters and phenolics. Complex, round yet very drinkable, the Caveman is a good intro to the cooler months and matches brilliantly with slow cooked BBQ lamb. Very limited addition, available soon at the brewery and select other draught outlets

Hell of the North

Hell of the North

Hell of the North is one hell of a beer! Not only does this beer push the limits of alcohol, it pushes the limits for flavour. It certainly is an intense drinking experience.

Sebastian Dark Gose

Sebastian Dark Gose

Gose is a tart and slightly salty style of German beer that dates back a thousand years „ and was almost extinct. It's now experiencing a renaissance in the United States, so we thought, 'why not Bobs Farm too?' And instead of the normal pale straw colour we thought we would darken it up a little. This beer has a wonderful chocolate aroma and flavor, with tones of saltiness and coriander, and a refreshing finish from the acidity of the lactobacillus.

Anniversary Ale 8

Anniversary Ale 8

"This beer marks a milestone in our business, with the expansion of our brewing operations at Port Stephens," said brewery owner, Murray Howe. "Our eighth birthday comes at a time when craft beer is really flying high. The craft beer scene is innovative, experimental and set for further growth in the years ahead. It's a very exciting time."
The Anniversary Ale series changes subtly each year but is always oak aged, always big and always a very limited release of 1000 bottles.
Murray's eighth Anniversary Ale goes back to its roots, reflecting the original recipe brewed to launch the company on New Year's Eve eight years ago.
A big barley wine style inspired by beers from the US, the UK and Belgium, Anniversary Ale 8 will be 10% abv. It features warming, rich malts and alcohol, a dry finish for a beer of its size, good drinkability and is designed to be cellared 5-10 years.
"Anniversary Ale 8 is a fantastic addition to our AA series," said Head Brewer, Shawn Sherlock. "It has rich crystal malt character and assertive bitterness and hop flavour to finish. As previous vintages have shown, extensive cellaring will be well rewarded with a depth of complexity of flavour and aroma that only careful bottle aging brings."
Cellaring is strongly recommended to ensure greatest enjoyment of the beer.

Dog House IPA

Dog House IPA

Dog House is a really great session IPA.
It's unfiltered (in fact it's our first unfiltered IPA) and also the first beer to make use of the new hop-back in the brewery. The hop-back allows us to use super fresh whole cone hop flowers (rather than pellets) at the very last stage of the brewing process immediately before we run the wort off to the fermenter. We fill the basket of our hop-back up with the hop flowers and run hot wort through the bed of fresh hops in a final pass before the wort travels through the heat exchanger and into the fermenter. This hot contact extracts the hop resins/oils giving maximum hop flavour and aroma with minimal-to-no-added hop bitterness. It gives an added 'resiny' mouthfeel to the beer and a cleaner, brighter hop flavour than other methods.
We used NZ Cascade hop flowers in this batch and we also used Motueka and Pacifica pellets in the boil and whirlpool.
The result is a really hoppy, quite bitter IPA with great drinkability due to its dry finish and lower than usual ABV for style (5.2%).

In Bloom wet hop IPA

In Bloom wet hop IPA

Murray's "In Bloom" wet hop IPA is a celebration of freshness and flavour. It's the greenest, cleanest beer we've ever brewed!
Our hop farming friends in Tasmania handpicked the first hop flowers of the season, packed a bag of them straight from the bine, and couriered them to us at Bobs Farm by overnight air freight.
That's 24 hours from the vine, to the brew!
The next day we used these 'wet hops' to brew the freshest beer possible (most beers are made using pelletised dried hop flowers, you know). We added the wet hop flowers all the way through the brewing process, from the mash onward and jammed as many into the brewery's Hop Back as we could fit.
Their fresh, resiny hop-goodness was squeezed out of them on the way to the fermenter creating a great burst of fresh hop flavour and aroma. Balanced by clean malt flavours and a slightly cooler than our usual fermentation profile, "In Bloom" is a hop lover's Nirvana!
Fresh is always best.

Anniversary Ale 9

Anniversary Ale 9

BIRTHDAY BEER COLLABORATION
Murray's Anniversary Ale 9
For this year's birthday beer we've teamed up with renowned street artist, Mike Watt, to create a collaboration brew with a difference.
"Besides great beer, our other true pleasure in life is visual art," says Murray. "Every beer we brew has its own distinct personality and design. And now, we're introducing art to our anniversary, creating a limited edition bottle design in collaboration with guru, Mike Watt."
Mike Watt is an Australian artist and illustrator based in Sydney. His mediums vary from biro, spray paint, brush and ink to digital. He describes his style as "kind of gritty and ugly", normally showing characters with lots of personality that have lived an interesting life."It's always great collaborating with Murray's. They're really into their craft and they make amazing beer. I love working with anyone who is passionate about what they do - when it's making amazing beer it makes it even better!" said Mike Watt.
Murray's Anniversary Ale is always oak aged, always big and always a very limited release of around 1000 bottles. While this year's special brew gives a nod to its roots, reflecting the original recipe brewed to launch the company on New Year's Eve nine years ago, the recipe twist is aging the beer on Hunter Valley red wine barrel staves.
"These staves will not only add flavour and aroma from the inside surfaces that have been in contact with the red wine, but will also add raw oakiness from the outside surfaces of the staves," said Head Brewer, Graeme Mahy. "The end result of the staves provides a unique combination of part oaky, part red wine flavours."
An English-style barley wine, this year's Anniversary Ale features warming rich fruit cake-like sweetness from the caramel and roasted malts, with strong aromas of stone fruit and an assertive but balanced bitterness in the finish.
This big beer can be enjoyed now, however, we advise patience will be rewarded. Cellaring for 5-10 years (if you can) is recommended to maximise enjoyment from the maturing flavours.
"If you just can't hold out for 10 years, then try some over Christmas with a Christmas fruit pudding. Or in the New Year, with some ultra-rich and strong blue cheese," adds Graeme.
Some more Mike Watt stuff!

Lamb-bourghini Australian IPA

Lamb-bourghini Australian IPA

It's un-Australian to drink anything but great Aussie beer on Australia Day - so we decided to create something special. Our first ever Australian IPA - aptly named LAMB-Borghini Australian IPA.
Brewed at Bobs Farm and 100% hopped with Australian hops, and virtually all of the malt is Australian too. Straw to light golden colour, with a sweet biscuit malt base and of course a good dosing of Australia's finest aromatic hops. The combined use of Helga, Ella and Enigma late in the whirlpool and a massive dry hopping addition gives an enticing aroma and flavour of tropical fruit, spice, herbs and red berry. Bitter, sweet, well balanced and, of course, all Australian!
Tastes great with (you guessed it) - lamb!

Pucker Up - Sour Ale

Pucker Up - Sour Ale

Spontaneous Fermented Sour Pale Ale 3.5%
Launched on Valentine's Day as among the first in our "Short Supply" series of special craft beers, Pucker Up is a sour pale ale that has been spontaneously fermented with the airborne microflora surrounding our Brewery at Bobs Farm.
In particular Lactobacillus has played a big part in souring the beer prior to normal fermentation with an Ale yeast.
The resultant beer is very tart, yet sweet in the finish, and has the aroma and flavour of intense grapefruit with a hint of passionfruit.
Ideal with perfectly roasted pork belly. And we're even using Pucker Up as the core ingredient in a beer cocktail!

Skully Red IPA

Skully Red IPA

Consistent with our love of IPAs, we've ventured into the world of red IPA's with 'Skully'!
Deep red colour from the European caramalts, with a distinctive hop aroma from the US West Coast hops.
The generous amounts of Mosaic and Mt Hood hops give this IPA a strong piney/citrus/herbal aroma and flavour balanced with undertones of caramel from the malts.
Delicious with hot and spicy food.

Double Trouble

Double Trouble

When Murray's Craft Brewing founder and current head brewer Graeme Mahy paid us a visit from Australia recently we knew that trouble wouldn't be far behind. Luckily for you that mischief presents itself as a collaborative beer between Graeme and Pelican Brewing Co. aptly named Dubbel Trubbel. This Belgian-style Dubbel uses a complex and rich malt bill that packs a dual punch of dark caramel giving it a deep brown color with red highlights. The soft malt notes are complemented by the use of the Belgian yeast that provides a full, fruity aroma and profile, laced with dried currants and dark chocolate. This unfiltered version of this Belgian-style Dubbel uses only Oregon grown Santiam Hops and infuses dark Belgian candy syrup during the fermentation process resulting in a clean, dry, and highly drinkable ale. If you can appreciate someone traveling over 8,000 miles on their day off just to continue to toil with their craft then you'll enjoy the trouble Graeme Mahy and the Pelican Brewing team have gone through to bring this ale to you.

Scratchley's Itch Pilsner

Scratchley's Itch Pilsner

Scratchley's Itch is a pilsner made for the people of Newcastle.
Subtle use of Australian and New Zealand hops for flavour and aroma give a uniquely craft edge - combined with traditional German pilsner malt making for a delicate crisp dry finish on the palate.
Perfect for enjoying on a hot summers afternoon in Newcastle.
A perfect match with fish and chips at the beach!

Stone Kicker Australian Ale

Stone Kicker Australian Ale

After a run of high alcohol special releases we wanted to do something to show you can have lower ABV and still big flavour.
A solid malt backbone with a rich nutty caramel flavour of the crystal malts is balanced by the strong hop flavour and aroma of the NZ Riwaka and Motueka hops. At 3.9 percent abv it results in a great full flavoured, hoppy session ale.
Great by the pint!

Haba_ero

Haba_ero

HabaÐerois our first chilli beer with, you guessed it, roastedhabaÐero chilli's added post fermentation.
Pouring a rich red colour, it has the aroma of citrus and capsicum with flavours of rich caramel and a smooth rounded finish. But watch out for that chilli bite which quickly becomes assertive.

Ed

Ed

Ed is Fred's younger cousin - not quite as grown up but just as brash!
Ed is our Session IPA, packed with Citra and Cascade hops, giving aromas and flavours of orange peel, melon and tropical fruits and a light, sweet malt base to balance the generous hopping.
Ed has all that you would expect in an IPA except at 4.5% abv it is very drinkable!

Chocolate Easter Egg

Chocolate Easter Egg

Murray's first ever chocolate beer is decadent, rich and complex.
Made from six specialty malts, cocoa nibs and vanilla beans, the beer has been cold conditioned with all luscious ingredients for two weeks. Chocolate Easter Egg Beer tastes like bitter dark chocolate with a slight vanilla sweetness. It pours a dark chocolate colour with creamy off-white head, with an aroma of bittersweet chocolate.
When it hits your lips it's like an alcohol-infused chocolate explosion!

Clarence Session Tripel

Clarence Session Tripel

Murray's 'Clarence' is a new twist on the classic Belgian Tripel.
It is pale straw in colour, with a white, fluffy head. It oozes phenolics of banana and spice that are essential to the style.
Although lighter in alcohol than most of its contemporaries it fits well with its malty undertone and up front aroma.
Ideally paired with cheese or seafood.

Saison DuBob

Saison DuBob

Part of our 'Short Supply' series, Saison DuBob is a table Saison. Saisons have their roots as a farmhouse ale, traditionally brewed with whatever ingredients were at hand on the farmstead.
Saison DuBob is a typical French/Belgian table Saison with an aroma and flavour featuring notes of lemon and tropical fruit, and a slight acidity in the finish.
Dry, bitter and refreshing.
Best matched with rustic food, such as a simple roast chicken with garlic and fresh picked herbs.

Contrasted with a hopping regime more similar to an IPA, this beer is bittered with American Chinook, and then saturated with massive amounts of New Zealand hop blend for flavour and aroma.6.1% abv.

Brutus Belgian Quadrupel IPA

Brutus Belgian Quadrupel IPA

Murray's beers are usually brewed to be well balanced and very drinkable, but sometimes inspiration demands a beer be brewed that is a little OTT.
Brutus is best described as 'aggressive', both in hop and alcohol character, all attempting to be balanced by the sweetness of the caramel malts.
At 16% abv it is a beer intended to assault the taste buds - Enjoy!

Shepherd's Delight Saison De Brut

Shepherd's Delight Saison De Brut

As cooler autumn days are now with us we are inspired to brew beers to warm up your soul.
Shepherd's Delight is our Saison De Brut, rich caramel flavours and aromas, with a hint of spiciness.
The alcohol provides a balanced sweetness and a warming finish.

Benny - Belgian Red Ale

Benny - Belgian Red Ale

Benny' is our take on a Belgian Red Ale.
A light reddish/brown colour from the European crystal malts giving a malt aroma and flavour of light caramel, as well as a slight banana and clove profile from the yeast.
At 6.5% abv it also has a slight warming character for the cooler Autumn months.

Pronounced clove with hints of banana in the aroma from the yeast are balanced with caramel and chocolate flavours from the darker roasted malts. A sophisticated, complex and easy drinking dark beer for the winter months.

The Night Demon

The Night Demon

Conceived by Newcastle local home brewer, Mark Bigland, this is a special beer in our line-up. Mark was awarded Champion Beer of Show for his Strong Dark Belgian Ale at this year's Newcastle Show Home Brewing Competition. As part of his prize Mark got to brew and bottle a batch of his winning beer with the Murray's brewing team.
A Belgian Quad with a toasty/bready flavour and a hint of malty sweet caramels and raisins, it has a smooth but noticeable amount of alcohol balanced out with a moderately bitter, medium dry and slightly peppery finish.

Ashes to Ashes Baltic Porter

Ashes to Ashes Baltic Porter

A special collaboration beer brewed at Bobs Farm jointly with New Zealand craft brewer, Coromandel Brewing.
A dark beer with broad appeal and comparatively lower alcohol.
Ashes to Ashes is full bodied and smooth with a sweet, malty, roasted flavour. Dark fruits, caramel, toffee or currant in the aroma and flavour adds to complexity and a medium to low bitterness from the English Kent Golding hops for balance. A full bodied, warming brew for the cool winter nights.

American Amber Ale with biscuit malt and light caramel flavours with citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavours from the NZ Motueka and Nelson Sauvin hops.

Black Bear IPA

Black Bear IPA

Murray's Black Bear Ale is a Black IPA inspired by the India Black Ales or Cascadian Dark Ales of the West Coast of the USA. Brewed using dark malts in the lauter tun only which extract colour with very little of the dark malt flavour and aroma. Extensively hopped with Simcoe and Centennial the result is a beer of big hop flavour and aroma, black in colour with subtle dark malt flavours.

Wandering Pelican IPA

Extensively hopped throughout the brewing process with the 4 C's (Cascade, Columbus, Centennial, Chinook), The Wandering Pelican has an aroma and flavour of tropical fruit, citrus, pine and dark berries. The sweetness of the speciality crystal malts and alcohol is balanced with a firm bitterness while giving a light biscuit/caramel malt flavour. Enjoy!

Melon Rouge Watermelon Wheat Beer

Melon Rouge Watermelon Wheat Beer

Inspired by a well-known San Franciscan Brewery on a trip to the US-of-A by Murray, we have produced our own Watermelon Wheat Beer.
While it's a drinker's dream, it's a bit of a brewer's nightmare as it's one of the stickiest, messiest brews of the year!
Made from more than 100 fresh local watermelons, the base is an American-style Wheat beer. The freshly hand-cut and pulped fruit is then added at the fermentation stage.
The flavour is subtle, not overpowering watermelon backed with a slight spiciness from the wheat. The colour is a soft pink hue of the fruit.
It's easy drinking and really refreshing. The perfect summer drink.

Mango Berliner Weisse

Mango Berliner Weisse

If you think mixing beer and fruit is for whimps, then we're hoping to change your mind! Properly balanced 'fruit beer' can be the perfect, refreshing beverage on a hot summer's day.
The Berliner Weisse style, from the Berlin region in Germany, is an interesting example. While not technically a fruit beer it still fills the brief. It's actually a sour beer with fruit syrup added.
For our Mango Berliner Weisse, we've mixed in (you guessed it) mangoes!
Critically, a properly balanced fruit beer should not betray the underlying beer. Fruit beer is, after all, beer first and foremost, with a touch of fruit flavour - and not a cider or wine cooler.
So why not take the ultimate test of your muscle and try one for yourself?

Murrays Wilbur Rauchbier

Murrays Wilbur Rauchbier

Wilbur Raucbier is based on the classic beers from the Bamberg region of Germany. Dark gold to light brown in colour with a compact head.
It has an aroma of smoked sausage and bacon with a touch of mustiness and light fruit - with the flavour coming from malts we've smoked ourselves in our kitchen smoker.
The flavour is a balance of sweet malt and smoke with a lingering smoked sausage/bacon finish.
Best enjoyed with, you guessed it, bacon!

Grapefruit Fred

Grapefruit Fred

While lemon is banned from all Murray's beers, one member of the citrus family has passed muster. We've added fresh grapefruit zest to our signature IPA and are REALLY happy with the result . . . hence Grapefruit FRED IPA was born!
It's not what most people would think to add to beer, but the tartness of the grapefruit perfectly complements the citrusy hop character of FRED.
FRED is aggressively late hopped with a house blend of hops from the US Pacific Northwest. It has the classic US IPA hop aroma and flavour of big citrus, tropical fruit and pine notes throughout. An assertive bitterness is balanced by the sweetness of the pale, crystal and wheat malt additions.
The addition of grapefruit boosts the citrus fruit aroma and flavour complementing the tropical and citrus fruit from the US Amarillo and Citra hops.

Cornelius Kolsch

Cornelius Kolsch

If there was one beer Murray never wanted to brew it would be a Kolsch, so us brewers went ahead and did one anyway!
Brewed using a traditional warm fermentation and extended cold maturation period, Murray's Cornelius Kolsch pours a light straw colour with a dense mousse-like head. The flavours and aromas are delicate, with a light hoppiness, from the NZ grown German variety hops, and subtle spiciness from the yeast.
An easy drinking beer for the warmer spring days.

The Kaiser German IPA

The Kaiser German IPA

In Germany unless a beer is brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot (the German purity law) it technically cannot be called 'beer'. IPA's, where they are dry-hopped, fall into this category as the purity law implies that hops must be boiled.
But we didn't let that stand in our way and Murray's The Kaiser German IPA was born.
Using a new German grown hop called Hull Melon, which is of Cascade parentage, we took a standard malt base and added these hops throughout the brewing process and of course added plenty of dry-hops in the fermenter. The result showcases the flavours and aromas of the Hull Melon being, you guessed it, honeydew melon with a touch of strawberry.
A very unique beer which we hope you will enjoy this Oktoberfest.
Perfect with pretzels and mustard.

Wolfsberg German IPA

Wolfsberg German IPA

The second in our German IPA series, and again brewed ignoring the Reinheitsgebot (the German purity law).
Using a new German grown hop called Hallertau Blanc, which is a daughter of the Cascade hop; we took a standard malt base and added these hops throughout the brewing process and of course added plenty of dry-hops in the fermenter. The result showcases the floral and fruity hops with passion fruit, grapefruit, pineapple, grape and lemongrass overtones. Sounds good, doesn't it!

Oktoberfest Beer

Oktoberfest Beer

Many people may not know that Oktoberfest is also the name of a beer style. Technically, authentic 'Oktoberfestbier' is brewed only by the breweries within the city limits of Munich. All other beers brewed to emulate the original must be labelled Oktoberfest-style beer!
Murray's has also brewed a traditional Oktoberfest beer - or should we say Oktoberfest-style beer, which is smooth, clean, and rather rich, with a depth of malt character.
Dark gold to deep orange-red colour. Bright clarity, with a solid, off-white foam stand.

Sarcastic Neighbour (d)rye wit

Sarcastic Neighbour (d)rye wit

Witbier and Hefeweizen are two styles of wheat beer and often mistaken for each other, but they're quite unique.
Brewed in collaboration with the Hunter United Brewers, Sarcastic Neighbour Rye Witbier (or white beer) is our interpretation of a Belgian style of beer brewed with the addition of rye malt, coriander and orange peel.
The juicy flavours and bright, citrusy aromas are apparent from the moment this beer is poured; and the zippy tang of the finish is perfect for a warm, summer day.

Raspberry Berliner Weisse

Raspberry Berliner Weisse

If you think mixing beer and fruit is for whimps, then we're hoping to change your mind! Properly balanced 'fruit beer' can be the perfect, refreshing beverage on a hot summer's day.
The Berliner Weisse style, from the Berlin region in Germany, is an interesting example. While not technically a fruit beer it still fills the brief. It's actually a sour beer with fruit syrup added.

Critically, a properly balanced fruit beer should not betray the underlying beer. Fruit beer is, after all, beer first and foremost, with a touch of fruit flavour - and not a cider or wine cooler.

Tomato Berliner Weisse

Tomato Berliner Weisse

If you think mixing beer and fruit is for whimps, then we're hoping to change your mind! Properly balanced 'fruit beer' can be the perfect, refreshing beverage on a hot summer's day.
The Berliner Weisse style, from the Berlin region in Germany, is an interesting example. While not technically a fruit beer it still fills the brief. It's actually a sour beer with fruit syrup added.
For our Anna Bay Tomato Berliner Weisse, we've mixed in (you guessed it) locally grown, beautiful Anna Bay tomatoes!
Critically, a properly balanced fruit beer should not betray the underlying beer. Fruit beer is, after all, beer first and foremost, with a touch of fruit flavour - and not a cider or wine cooler.
So why not take the ultimate test of your muscle and try one for yourself?

Anniversary Ale 10

Anniversary Ale 10

Hefeweizen

Hefeweizen

Hefeweizen is a south German style of wheat beer (weissbier) made with a typical ratio of 50:50 of malted wheat and malted barley. The "Hefe" prefix means "with yeast", hence the beer's unfiltered and cloudy appearance.
Murray's Hefeweizen has an aroma and flavour of banana and cloves, with some spiciness produced by the yeast. The finish is slightly tart with a low level of bitterness and a smooth malty balance.
Enjoy with or without a slice of orange in the glass.

GET RICH or DIE RYEING

GET RICH or DIE RYEING

Rich amber red in colour. Moderate to high hop aroma of berry/citrus fruits from American mosaic and Amarillo. Resinous mouth feel from the large amounts of New Zealand Riwaka hop flowers, used in the hop back. The German crystal and rye malts give it a full bodied malt character.

Alcatraz California Common

Alcatraz California Common

California Common, or Steam Beer, originated on the West Coast of the USA and is brewed with a lager yeast without the use of refrigeration. Anchor Brewery (San Francisco) is attributed with the modern Steam Beer, and trademarked the term in 1981 hence the use of the term California Common.
Murray's Alcatraz California Common is tawny in colour with a medium bodied malt character and a distinct fruitiness from the yeast. The caramel/toffee sweetness is balanced by an assertive bitterness.
A unique beer perfect for the cooler Autumn months. Perfectly paired with a BBQ pork burrito.

Eric

Eric

Eric was created from a parti-gyle of the Anniversary Ale 10. Parti-gyle is the second (or third) runnings from the lauter tun of a strong beer resulting in successively weaker beers.
The parti-gyle still resulted in the beer at 9.0% abv. This rich, strong and complex beer is full-bodied, sweet and malty, and is complemented by alcohol tones, a firm bitterness and a spicy, clove-like characteristic from the saison yeast.
Best enjoyed with a rich Flemish stew.

Fly By Night Schwartzbier

Fly By Night Schwartzbier

Providing a lower alcohol, easy drinking alternative to stronger dark ales, Fly By Night does not follow the rules of traditional Bavarian or Thuringian styles which shy from roasted flavours. Murray's version gives a big tilt of the bowler hat to the British Porter, embracing chocolate and coffee tones. Its new world New Zealand hopping and low temperature fermentation of Danish yeast completes this edgy dark lager. 5.9% abv.

Wild Thing Coffee Imperial Stout

Wild Thing Coffee Imperial Stout

The original Wild Thing beer has been transformed with the addition of 1000 espresso shots to a batch to create 'Wild Thing' Coffee Imperial Stout'. A massive coffee hit - intense, rich and complex with luxurious mouthfeel. Aromas of strong dark coffee espresso with hints of chocolate and toffee from the dark malts.10% abv.

Paddington Beer

Paddington Beer

A subtle barley wine where you may just notice an addition of spiced marmalade. This is all bought together by a heavy hitting whiskey note that comes from extended cellaring in Tasmanian whisky oak barrels.
Oranges, lemons, grapefruit, cardamom and star anise were lovingly thrown into the vat and drawn though some big, bitter hops to enhance the citrus flavours. After the initial fermentation, Murray's dropped out the yeast, but didn't chill it like most modern beers.
Instead the brew was transferred to the oak barrels for secondary fermentation over six months.
And out came a delightfully aromatic, subtly spiced beer with a warm finish on the palate thanks to some generous alcohol content.
Brewed for GABS 2016
We think the combination of flavours have balanced out beautifully.

Troy IPA

Troy IPA

Troy IPA delivers bold complex flavours akin to the standoff of the battle of its name sake.
Plentiful lashings of German Vienna and Munich malts deliver an up front sweetness that is skillfully countered by four classic American hop varieties which leave a lingering resinous bitterness.

Great with hot and spicy food.

Sea Monster Seaweed Beer

Sea Monster Seaweed Beer

This is a pretty experimental beer! Initially we weren't sure whether to treat seaweed like malt or a hop, but we decided using the seaweed in the mash was the best way to go.
We added dried wakame and nori seaweed to the mash. We kept aside a very small amount of the seaweed, soaked it in hot water together with some sea salt, and added this to the brew post fermentation for some extra bite.
Murray's Sea Monster drinks like a brown ale and pours dark amber. Its slightly sweet malt backbone gives way to a subtle seaweed finish, slightly earthy, and with just enough bitterness to balance. Great with seafood.

English Wheat Beer

English Wheat Beer

This beer is the result of feeling inspired to just through a heap of ingredients together and see what happens.
Although the actual quantities are unknown we have used a large portion of British Torrefied wheat which give strong biscuity almost popcorn like malt character and plenty of German Vienna malt to round it out. English ale yeast gives a complex ester profile and topped off with a light addition of a few classic American hop varieties to give some pop.
Pours a light hazy straw with creamy white head.

Have even more fun with this beautiful Belgian-style beer!

And definitely a very short supply.
Great with something sweet.

Anniversary Ale 11

Anniversary Ale 11

It's our eleventh birthday and the eleventh release of our Anniversary Ale series. And it's a bit of a departure from the ones brewed in the past.

Lots of Belgian esters with subtle oak character in aroma. Deep rich chocolate roast malt flavours with some oak in the finish.

Firehouse Irish Red Ale

Firehouse Irish Red Ale

We've been working on how to get that Gaelic feeling for St Patrick's Day.
Previously we have done really good, simple stouts. But this year we thought we should mix it up a bit.
So we're brewing that other great beer from the Emerald Isle - an Irish Red (well, sort of). We have blurred the lines on the style guides and made something a little bit original.
Irish Red ale is red in colour from the small amount of roast barley in the ingredients (we have been true to that).Tick.
However they traditionally should have little to no hope aroma and no ethers and use English hops. This we have changed!
We've used English malts topped off with American hops, with a loverly note of ethers on top.
To be enjoyed on St. Patrick's Day. Top of the day to you!

Dark Nitro

Dark Nitro

Dark Nitro is exactly as it sounds – the same great Dark Knight porter that everyone loves, but with a nitro twist. We’ve used nitrogen to dial up the drinking experience this winter – giving it an extra creamy texture and mouthfeel.

Chocolate Donut Beer

Chocolate Donut Beer

If you're in love with great beer and great donuts - and who isn't? - then this brew's for you.
A playful collaboration between Port Stephens' Murray's Brewery and Newcastle's Doughheads has created something really delicious and special - Chocolate Donut Beer!
DOH!
This flavour collision creates a decadent beer, with chocolatey/toffee flavours sweetened with lashings of cinnamon. The beer pours very dark with a tight packed head, and a texture of that will make you think of sweet cinnamon dough and spices.
One for the sweet tooths; it's guaranteed to put a smile on your dial.
Great with sticky ribs or fried chicken.

Frankie Best Extra Porter

Frankie Best Extra Porter

Murray's 'Frankie' Best Extra Porter was created in our Bobs Farm 'laboratory' through chemistry and alchemy!
This beast-size bottle contains the richly dark brown spectre of roasted chocolate and full bodied maltiness from British Maris Otter base malt. An extra helping of East Kent Goldings hops perfectly sutures the balance of this monstrously good winter warmer.

The Colonel Nitro Kentucky Common

The Colonel Nitro Kentucky Common

One of the most interesting beers you've probably never heard of, 'Kentucky Common' is highly uncommon. It's one of only three 'indigenous' beer styles to the United States, as well as one of the rarest commercially brewed beer styles in the world.
The style represents the true grit of the Deep South American beer market. Originating around the Louisville area, this was the working man's beer of choice from the mid 1800s - the equivalent of porters made in London at the same time.
In Kentucky there was an abundance of corn grown, so it made perfect sense to use this crop to make beer in the form of grits. The beer was made fast to keep up with demand, with next to no conditioning time - something we never would normally here at Murray's. But we are always keen to experiment and try new things.
Dark brown, creamy finish and a little tart. Interesting and tasty.
Originally, the beer would have been poured straight from the cask into mugs. We've added our characteristic twist, and opted to use nitrogen to dial up the drinking experience.
So enjoy the experience of southern (and Port Stephens') hospitality as they did for a limited time only . . . before the killjoys of Prohibition almost wiped this beer out of existence.

Wild Thing Vanilla Imperial Stout

Wild Thing Vanilla Imperial Stout

Murray's iconic 'Wild Thing' Imperial Stout once again has been transformed - this year with luxurious Madagascar vanilla beans (the fruits of an orchid). Not to be underestimated - Wild Thing Vanilla is just as fierce as her sisters! Dominant lashings of roasted chocolate, aggressive bitterness and a silky smooth body, flavour and fragrance of soft, sweet vanilla.
STILL FIERCE!

Mister America Big American Stout

Mister America Big American Stout

American Stouts have a reputation for being a bit 'wacky zany' - especially compared to their more conservative British and Irish cousins. Now add a splash of Murray's innovation and originality, and you've got 'Mister America' American Stout.
If you ever thought lots of hops don't belong in BIG BLACK stout - then think again. This beer is going to prove you wrong! It's blacker than the night and has a dense, creamy head. A BIG hit of classic roasted malts then finishes off with an even BIGGER hit of molasses, tobacco and American citrus and pine hops.
Don't' try to understand it. IT JUST WORKS.
We've made Mister America an easy drinking session stout as well.

Sugar Daddy Pimped English Brown Ale

Sugar Daddy Pimped English Brown Ale

Yo, yo, my name be Murray's 'Sugar Daddy' - and I'm a kinda pimped English Brown Ale.
Smoked almonds in da mash and conditioned on mounds of shredded coconut and roasted cocoa nibs. say what? Sugar Daddy pours a rich ruby brown, smells like a dessert and initially tastes like one too. Hello, sweet thang!
A rich and smooth mouthfeel, balanced with just the right amount of bitterness to make it a very fine beverage indeed.
Don't be axing for any other Brown Ale.

Pretty Fly White IPA

Pretty Fly White IPA

Consistent with our love of IPAs, we've ventured into the world of white IPA's with 'Pretty Fly' White IPA.
This IPA is about as non-traditional as they get.
Combines a number of speciality European yeast strains to give a complex ester profile with large amounts of classic American West Coast hops.
Pours hazy straw with rocky white head.
Aromas of tropical fruit and pine from the hops and hints of banana and spices from the yeast.
GREAT with American Dude Food!

Blue Velvet Blue IPA

Blue Velvet Blue IPA

Would you want to drink a beer that is blue?
We wouldn't. It would make us think that colouring or some other non-natural additive was used.
Would you want to drink a beer that has blueberries in it?
Now that we would! So we created Murray's Blue Velvet Blue IPA.
This is a darker than normal IPA, with blueberries added in the boil and also in the fermentation to produce lively yet subtle blueberry notes on the palate.
The main hop driver is Mount Hood from the USA which gives berry notes to the aroma.
Blue Velvet is produced at 5.2%abv to give a great rounding of alcohol that lifts the aroma and body to match the flavours within.
GREAT with American Dude Food!

Bad Ass Pipsqueak IPA

Bad Ass Pipsqueak IPA

This beer maybe small by name but is big in flavour!
Using the malt backbone of an English bitter and the hop profile of an American IPA this beer delivers flavour that punches well above its ABV.
Pours light copper with an off white head.
Aromas and flavours of tropical fruit and pine with generous amounts of crystal and vienna malts to make up for the lower alcohol.

Holy Cow! Sweet Milk Stout

Holy Cow! Sweet Milk Stout

At Murray's, we always put our own interpretation onto any style of beer that we brew. So it's no surprise that for our first Milk Stout we are also doing things differently.
Milk Stouts were originally served at around 4% ABV. They were meant to contain the lactose from milk and were marketed as a health drink to give you energy.
We've used the same lactose, but in a bigger, bolder stout. It might not be a health drink, but will make you happier for enjoying the flavour!
This beer is served at a generous 5.7% ABV, with the large rounding of dark malt flavours boosted by the unfermentable sugars to give a sweet undertone to an impressive beer.
GREAT with American Dude Food!

Bald Eagle Classic American Pale Ale

Bald Eagle Classic American Pale Ale

Murray's Brewing was founded on the back of our version of an American Pale Ale (Murray's Angry Man Pale Ale) and has been a flagship of our core range ever since. So we thought it was about time we brewed another classic American Pale Ale to celebrate American Beer Month!
Bald Eagle looks at this style from a different angle and a different perspective.
It pours golden copper with a persistent off-white head. Lashings of classic citrus and piney American hops, which are the keystone of this style, will envelop the senses from start to finish - with a delicious pillow of malty goodness to carry them all the way through.
GREAT with American Dude Food!

Kransky Beer

Kransky Beer

On November 30th, 1487, Albert IV, Duke of Bavaria announced the Reinheitsgebot, or "Bavarian Purity Law." It declared that beer can only be made using water, barley, and hops.
We disagree.
There are thousands of delicious and exciting beers that break the mould. Like Murray's experimental Kransky Beer! One of the few beers around made with meat.
Initially sweet and bready like a classic German doppelbock, but finishes with a spicy, smoked meat note.
Yes, it really does taste like a smoky Kransky sausage in a glass. Pours a light copper with off white foamy head.
Great with Oktoberfest-inspired food!

Black Forest Beer

Black Forest Beer

A very beery take on a German dessert classic.
Pours very dark brown with a thick persistent head. Rich aromas of chocolate and coffee with the wafts of cherry.
The flavours are as intense as it smells, sweet and delicious.
This beer is not shy about showing off.
Great with Oktoberfest-inspired Black Forest Cake!

Gardenia

Gardenia IIPA

Murray's is no stranger to big IPA's and our latest offering ratchets it up a notch. We’ve got massive citrus and pine aroma from classic US hop varieties that hits you up front. Ginni Hendrix

Ginni Hendrix Pale Ale

Bold and experimental, just like its namesake, Ginni Hendrix is brewed with non-traditional ingredients to create a unique and flavourful experience. A light, dry malt base allows the gin flavours to shine, with just enough caramel to stand up to the aromatic flavour of the botanicals. The full range of botanicals used to make our Gentleman Smith Gin was included in this experimental brew. The subtle use of Simcoe and Chinook hops enhances the spicy, pine and citrus notes of the gin botanicals without overpowering them. The botanical oils create a unique dry mouthfeel reminiscent of gin.

‘Wild Thing’ Whisky

‘Wild Thing’ Whisky Imperial Stout

Inspired by the great stouts favoured by the Russian Imperial Court, the original Murray's cult beer, 'Wild Thing' Imperial Stout, is a massive, intense drinking experience. This year, it’s extra wild from conditioning on whisky barrel staves. An intense hit of mocha, with some roast malt sweetness, combining with the barrel oak to give a complex, yet rounded flavour. An aggressive addition of hops gives bitterness to balance. The colour is intensely black.

Coco Hops

Coco Hops Coconut Porter

Topping off with lashings of coconut in maturation makes this a complete experience for the senses. Pours very dark brown with ruby highlights and a creamy tan head.

Providence

Providence New England IPA

This beer is all about the late additions of hops in the brewing process. Enough in the whirlpool to get plenty of flavour but not too much of the bitterness to keep it very drinkable.

Then double dry hopped, once at the beginning of fermentation and then again at the end to give it the pungent juicy tropical aromas that this style is known for. Pours extra hazy pale straw with creamy white head and mouthfeel to match.

Blood Moon IPA

Blood Moon IPA

Blood Moon is the first blood-orange infused beer we've ever made. And it tastes great!
This IPA takes the distinct and intense character of Cara Cara blood oranges and pink grape fruit and marries them with carefully selected hops that enhance and complement their citrus flavours and aromas. Citrusy and fruity, with notes of pineapple and tangerine. A sticky, caramel-laden malt body compliments the fleshy fruit, followed by a long, grapefruit-inflected hop finish.
Tastes great with hot and spicy food.

Angry Fred

Angry Fred IPA

Angry Fred isn't here to muck around, he's going to get straight to the point and that's to get hops in your face!
A single Maris Otter malt profile gives the hops all the room they need to deliver a full assault to your senses. It pours a hazy pale golden with a thick rocky white head.
Pungent aromas of tropical fruit, pine and citrus backed up by resinous flavours of more of the same.
You won’t forget Fred when he’s angry – and he's turning this one up to 11.
Great with hot and spicy food.
