FIRST ‘GIN AND JAZZ’ FESTIVAL IN JULY 2018

Featuring:

Weekends of 14/15 July and 21/22 July

“Most people know us for our experimental beers, but we’ve recently begun experimenting with craft spirits too – and we’re loving it! So much so that we’ve created a new festival around one of our favourites, gin,” said brewery owner, Murray Howe.

“We figure partnering gin with jazz will create the perfect atmosphere for some chill out time with friends and family. After all, gin, which dates back to the Dutch in the 1600’s, is known for its calming effects. And even if gin is not your thing, there’s so much going on at Murray’s this July you’re still bound to have a great time anyway.”

Free Jazz or Blues Concerts

Free live jazz and blues concerts will feature across the weekends – headlined by the Daryl Aberhart Trio performing Sunday 15 July. Well known Hunter musicians, Daryl Aberhart, Shawn O’friel and David Richardson specialise in jazz, grooves, blues and soul. They will play a selection of classic tunes by artists including Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, George Benson, Michael Buble and Van Morrison.

Murray’s Brewery loves gin so much that the craft brewer has created its own festival to honour it! The distinctive aroma and flavour of arguably the world’s most versatile spirit, gin, and its musical soul mate, jazz, will be showcased at Murray’s inaugural “Gin & Jazz Festival” across the weekends of 14/15 and 21/22 July.

Scott Day-Vee performs his brand of jazz and soul on Saturday 14 July, with Adam Gear performing rockin’ blues Saturday 21 July, and Tom Blake doing cool-cat blues Sunday 22 July.

3 Gins

In addition to Murray’s flagship ‘Gentleman Smith’ East Coast Gin, Murray’s is releasing two further gins especially for the festival.

The first is a different take on a classic dry gin – a spicy, peppery gin with a mix of sweet and savoury flavours making it a perfect base for a martini. The second is a lemon myrtle gin. It’s bold, very aromatic and distilled with local lemon myrtle leaves. The brewers say, “it’s packed so full of flavour that you can see it.”

New Gin Beer

In honour of the occasion, Murray’s will also be serving up its first ever ‘gin beer’. Yes, that’s right! ‘Ginni Hendrix Pale Ale’ is bold and experimental – just like its namesake. The full range of botanicals used to make Gentleman Smith Gin has been included in this experimental brew. A light, dry malt base allows the gin flavours to shine through this unusual pale ale, with just enough caramel to stand up to the aromatic flavour of the botanicals. Drinkers are left with a unique dry mouthfeel, reminiscent of gin.

Gin Masterclasses

Learn all about brewing, and getting the most out of tasting craft gin! Gin masterclasses will be run at 1.30pm each day of the weekends by Murray’s brewers. The class costs $5 per person, and runs for 45 minutes. Bookings essential.

Gin Cocktails

Murray’s will be serving up a range of non-traditional gin-based cocktails – as you probably haven’t experienced before.

And More . . .

Of course the usual line-up of Murray’s award winning craft beers will also be pouring. The kitchen will be serving up great winter barbecue dishes, beer-based gourmet pizzas, delicious burgers and an array of healthy food options and kids meals too. And Murray’s Brewery Bus will run as usual on the weekends.

“So come join me and kick back as you sample brand new delights for the senses this July at Murray’s Gin & Jazz Festival!” said Murray Howe.
